We're happy to announce that over the next couple of days we will be pushing our Stallion2 panel (replacing https://manage.buyvm.net) into production! A lot of hard work has gone into Stallion2's development, and we're excited to be able to finally release it for public use.
In order to ensure a smooth transition, we'll be putting both our billing panel (https://my.frantech.ca) and the current Stallion1 panel (https://manage.buyvm.net) into maintenance mode starting at 1800h PST (Currently GMT-7) Wednesday night (the 3rd). During this time, support and billing access will be disabled - however, you will be able to join us on IRC if there's an emergency you need resolved: irc.frantech.ca / #frantech .
Total 'downtime' for the Billing/Support panel is expected to be less than one hour, and we're estimating roughly 2-3 hours to fully transition the management panel to Stallion2. To be on the safe side, please go ahead and count on both panels being unavailable until midnight - as we've learned all too well, Murphy's Law always comes to play whenever something looks easy.
In case you haven't been following the development threads in the various forums we participate in, Stallion2 will be bringing a handful of new features along with the new interface - as well as giving us a ripe development ground for adding even more versatility down the road. A few notable changes are:
PonyVM#### Obsolescence: We've never much cared for the PonyVM-style logins, but until now there's never been a good chance to break away from the standard we've been using for the past several years. Once Stallion2 goes live, the PonyVM logins will continue to work until we start development on the billing and support modules, but will be disabled permanently no later than January 2014.
Dual Logins: In addition to the PonyVM username, you can also use your email address on file at my.frantech.ca as your username for the Stallion2 login (the password remains the same as your current manage.buyvm.net password). This will become the standard login once the PonyVM logins are discontinued.
NO MORE JAVA!: Probably the feature I'm personally happiest with - we have done away with using Java for the Serial Console and VNC connections; instead using our own wrapper around a VNC application to accomplish this. Please note that we are NOT banning/prohibiting Java on VPSes despite how this paragraph title sounds - we're just using a much more efficient alternative in our own panel.
All of the current features in Stallion1 will of course still be available in Stallion2. We'll also be working on new features (Floating IPs, Anycast, Pooled Bandwidth, etc) which will be implemented individually down the road.
While the panels are down for this maintenance, your VPSes will be completely unaffected, and will remain online. If for any reason you need a function usually done via the panel (Reboot, Shutdown, etc), please feel free to drop by IRC, and we'll lend a hand with that while the panels are offline.
As always, it's a pleasure to have such awesome clients, and we look forward to hearing your opinions on Stallion2 come Thursday! And if you have any comments/suggestions/improvements you'd like to put forward, we'll of course be more than happy to listen, just open a ticket!
